How to Apply for Sarkari Jobs Online: A Step-by-Step Guide

Applying for a government job online is mostly the same process whether it's SSC, UPSC, a state PSC or a railway recruitment. Once you've done it once, every other form feels familiar. This guide walks through the steps that almost every Sarkari application follows.

1. Read the official notification first

Before you touch the application form, read the PDF notification end to end. Pay attention to:

  • Eligibility — age limits (and category relaxations), educational qualification, and any experience requirement.
  • Important dates — when the form opens, the last date to apply, and the last date to pay the fee (sometimes a day later).
  • Application fee — and which categories are exempt.

Never rely only on a summary. A single line in the notification — a cut-off date for age, a required certificate — can decide whether your form is accepted.

2. Register on the official portal

Most recruiters need a one-time registration before you can apply to any of their posts. You'll typically provide your name exactly as on your 10th certificate, date of birth, email and mobile number. Keep the registration ID and password safe — you'll reuse them for every form from that body.

3. Fill the application form

Work through the form carefully:

  1. Personal and contact details
  2. Educational qualifications
  3. Category and any relaxation you're claiming
  4. Post preferences (where applicable)

Double-check spellings and your date of birth against your documents before moving on — many portals lock these fields after submission.

4. Upload your photo and signature

This is where most applications get rejected. Read the exact size and format requirements (usually a JPG within a specific KB range and pixel dimensions) and follow them precisely. Use a recent, plain-background passport photo and a signature on white paper in black ink.

5. Pay the fee and save everything

Pay online via UPI, net banking or card. After payment:

  • Take a screenshot or PDF of the final confirmation page.
  • Note your application/registration number.
  • Download and save the submitted form.

You'll need these for the admit card and any future correspondence.

Once you've applied, the next milestone is your admit card — track it on the relevant category page so you don't miss the download window.
