How to Get a Railway Job: RRB Exams, Posts & Eligibility Explained
Indian Railways is one of the largest government recruiters. Here's how RRB recruitment works — RRB NTPC, Group D, ALP and JE — with eligibility and exam stages.

Indian Railways is among the biggest employers in the world and recruits through the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRB) and Railway Recruitment Cells (RRC). Whichever your qualification, there's likely a railway exam for you.
Major railway recruitment exams

Typical selection process
- Computer Based Test (CBT) — usually one or more stages of objective tests (Maths, Reasoning, General Awareness, General Science).
- Skill / Aptitude test — e.g. typing test (NTPC clerical), Computer Based Aptitude Test (ALP), or PET (Group D).
- Document verification & medical examination.
Eligibility basics
- Age: varies by post (commonly ~18–33 with category relaxations).
- Education: matched to the post (see the table above).
- Medical standards: railways have medical fitness categories by post.
How to prepare
- Maths & Reasoning dominate the CBT — practice daily for speed.
- General Science (up to Class 10 level) and current affairs matter for NTPC and Group D.
- Take previous-year papers and full mock CBTs.
