Documents Required for Government Job Applications (Checklist)
A complete checklist of documents needed to apply for government jobs in India — identity, education, category and photo/signature specs — so your form is never rejected.
Most government job applications are rejected for avoidable document errors — a wrong photo size, a missing certificate, a name mismatch. Use this checklist to get it right the first time.
Core documents to keep ready
| Document | Why it's needed |
|---|---|
| Photo ID (Aadhaar/PAN/Voter ID) | Identity verification |
| 10th certificate | Date of birth proof (the official DOB record) |
| 12th & degree certificates | Educational qualification |
| Caste certificate (SC/ST/OBC) | To claim category relaxation |
| EWS certificate | For EWS reservation, if applicable |
| PwBD certificate | For disability reservation/relaxation |
| Domicile certificate | For state jobs requiring residency |
| Passport photo & signature | Uploaded in the prescribed format |
Photo and signature specifications
This is where most forms fail. Before uploading:
- Match the exact file format (usually JPG/JPEG).
- Stay within the file size range (often specified in KB).
- Use a recent passport photo with a plain background.
- Sign on white paper in black ink, then scan.
Name and date-of-birth consistency
Your name and DOB must match your 10th certificate across every document. Even a small spelling difference can cause rejection at verification.
Before you submit
- Re-read the eligibility and required documents in the notification — see how to read a notification.
- Confirm your age and relaxation — see age limit & relaxation.
- Save the confirmation page and application number after payment — see how to apply online.
